Dry January drink alternatives

The easiest way through Dry January is to replace the drink, not just remove it. Here are the alternatives that actually fill the evening-drink slot, from ones you can feel to ones that just taste the part.
Drinks you can feel
- Kava. The closest thing to the after-work beer: people drink it to unwind. Canned versions like Orange Dream hide the earthy taste. What is kava?
- Kratom elixirs. Sold by color: red for evenings, green for social plans, white for daytime. What the colors mean.
- Kanna. The social one, for Dry January parties. What is kanna?
Drinks that taste the part
- Non-alcoholic beer. Better than it used to be; the easiest swap at a bar.
- Non-alcoholic wine and spirits. Good for dinners and cocktails at home.
- Mocktails. Sparkling water, citrus, bitters and a good glass go a long way.
A simple plan for the month
- Pick your two or three "drinking moments" (after work, Friday night, dinners out).
- Assign each one a replacement: kava or red kratom after work, kanna or green kratom with friends, NA beer at the bar.
- Stock up before January 1st, so the swap is easier than the old habit.
The easy way to stock up
Variety packs let you try every flavor before the month starts.
